WE RECOGNIZE THAT THE QUALITY OF THESE PHOTOS IS LESS THAN USUAL DUE TO THE CONDITION OF THE AGED DOCUMENTS. WE SHOW THEM DUE TO THEIR HISTORIC SIGNIFICANCE TO OUR CHURCH.
The Historical Records Committee of the Phippsburg Congregational Church (UCC), comprised of Marcia Beach (chair), Wayne Beach, Mary Ellen Cummings, Betty Herron, Steve Wilson, and Bill Gilman, continues to catalog the church records in hand while concurrently seeking the locations of additional records located outside of the church. As examples, Wayne discovered the original deed of the church and has secured it in an archival folder while Mary Ellen Cummings and Steve Wilson have visited the Maine Historical Society in Portland where they reviewed the original historic records of the church dating back to 1765. It is the purpose of this committee to locate existing church records and ensure that they are properly documented and appropriately preserved for the future.
